Dungy has not always been praised by all. Some thought he could not win the big one, but as you can see in the picture above he can and he did win. He won the right way, he won his way.
Dungy was the 1st African American coach to ever win a Super Bowl. That is important, but what is more important is the impact he had on the lives of young men. If you asked Dungy what he liked most about coaching, I can guarantee you that the latter would be his answer.
Tony never yelled, he never cursed (even when people said he wasn't "mean" enough) and he cared about other things. He famously said to leave your work at work. He also said "I would rather us play well and lose, than play poorly and win." Now why would a coach say that. Because doing things the right way is more important than winning! See not everyone wants to trade their soul to the devil to win, some actually want to make an impact.
Tony Dungy wanted and still wants to make an impact. Dungy made an impact on the Bucs, completely turning that team around with the help of players like Derrick Brooks. Brooks, by the way, is one of the classiest players to ever play the game. Perhaps, playing for Dungy and Bobby Bowden helped Derrick accomplish that. You could look at Warrick Dunn in the same light as far as classiness and playing for these great coaches. I am just sayin'
Dungy always did the right thing and cared more about other things than winning. After all these sports scandals, it makes you wish more people acted like Tony Dungy. No coach is a saint, and no player is a saint, but some do more good than others. However, people like Tony Dungy realize that winning in life is far more important than winning in football.
