10 College Football Fanbases That Need To Pipe Down

I am not even going to pick on the horrible fanbases over @ Miami and Florida. These are 10 other groups of fans that need to quiet down.

10. Penn State
If I were a Penn State fan, I would want to be quiet during this time. The stuff that happened over there is absolutely disgusting. However, these guys somehow are on TV every week and there are some Penn State fans that are still whining.

9. Michigan Wolverines
Nobody really cares about the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry in the south. It is a meaningless rivalry that really doesn't matter. These guys always claim to be legit (I admit I bought in this year), but rarely are. They don't have the speed to play with the real elite of the nation. Michigan fans also typically think they know a lot about sports, but don't really know anything.

8. North Carolina Tar Heels
Yes, you have an amazing basketball program, no you do not have good football. You never will be elite in the ACC in football. You had to cheat to get the success you did get. Just be quiet. Plus you guys rooted for Butch Davis....

7. UCLA Bruins
Don't act like you care about football when your team starts out well. Now they lost and they will be quiet again until they win. UCLA is not USC level in football or anything, but yet when they win or before a matchup they talk trash. Just like they talked trash before they played FSU in the bowl a few years back. Then they lost and...

6. Boise State
Your team plays on a blue field and plays garbage competition. You cannot compete consistently with the nation's elite. They won't even win the Big East next year when they join. That one point win over BYU at home on your blue field is worthy of the top 25 ranking though. Keep thinking that.

5. Ohio State
You guys are on probation. Deal with it. Nobody cares about your school or your rivalry with Michigan. You barely beat UAB. You will always have Maurice Clarett though.

4. West Virginia
Really? You all are saying FSU is legit when they play a legit team like WVU. You mean the same WVU that backed out of a commitment to play FSU. Ok. Keep telling yourself that your team could take the Noles. You do realize that your team is 0-3 all time against the Noles, right? No, ok keep talking nonsense then.

3. SEC Fans
I put all SEC Fans together, because honestly if I broke them up team by team, they'd have at least 7 of the top 10 spots.
The SEC is good. They are the best conference, but they are not as good as you think they are.
Auburn got beat easily by Clemson in Week 1. Auburn took LSU to the brink yesterday. Clemson looked better against Auburn than LSU did. Oh, and Clemson beat Auburn without their best player. Clemson didn't have Sammy Watkins this year.
Vanderbilt lost to Northwestern.
Ole Miss got destroyed by Texas.
Let's not overdo it. Alabama is loaded and so is Georgia, but let's not act like every team is a title contender.
Also Arkansas and Kentucky are completely terrible.

2. Fans of Players Kicked Off the Team
I threw this one in there because every fanbase has this guy. The guy who is an apologist for some idiot that got kicked off the team. Then every time a bad play happens they say "if so and so were still here that wouldn't have happened." They do it for graduated players too. For FSU it is the Greg Reid apologists. They were out in full force last night when Greene fumbled the punt. Nevermind that Greene has 2 punt return TDs already this season and Greg Reid fumbled a return every other game, but hey its fun to say things in hindsight right? Oh Greene had a TD catch last night too and Reid's replacement at corner Waisome had the interception that ended Clemson's hope.
LSU has those guys that talk about the Honey Badger all the time.
Florida still has everyone obsessed with Tebow.
Just stop it you are annoying fans.

1. We want the backup QB
The most popular player in the stadium, the back up QB. Just remember there is a reason that the backup does not start. This fan is in every stadium at every level. The fans love the backup QB. Heck, I don't doubt that there are guys asking for Aaron Rodgers to get benched on the Packers. Believe it or not there are still Noles fans that don't believe in EJ Manuel. There are honestly Tech fans that think they would have won a national championship if they had benched Michael Vick. The fan that constantly screams for the backup QB is the most annoying and short sided fan there is. Unless your QB is Heath Shuler...

Then there are two fanbases that need to get louder
1) Seminole Fans
For years we have been mocked by those saying we are overrated and that people jumped the gun on us being back. Now with the huge win and our first title contender in years, we need to get loud.

2) Notre Dame Fans
These guys have had it worse than Seminole fans. These guys are constantly being told that their football team isn't even relevant. This is all despite the fact that they have the biggest fanbase and the best TV deal. Now that they are poised to rejoin the top 10, enjoy yourselves.

College Football Picks For Today

Football Season is here. Everyone is excited. I have not covered the start of the season as much as I would like, but I did do my predictions recently. Each week I will predict all ACC, SEC, Service Academy, and other intriguing game to me. I will only predict the Saturday games though.

 

Notre Dame Over Navy

Notre Dame will win a close game in my opinion. Questions all around for the Irish, but Brian Kelly absolutely has to win this game. If the Irish lose to Navy in Ireland, Brian Kelly might have to swim back across.

Sorry Brian, it is just the truth. You can settle down man. Must win for the Irish.

Georgia over Buffalo

Well I did kind of have high expectations for the Bulldogs. Check my pics for the year.

 

West Virginia over Marshall

The only reason I put this in is because I think this will be the most lopsided game of the week.

 

Upset Special: Ohio over Penn State

Yes, Penn State will be geared up for this game, but there are too many distractions and Ohio is better than people think. Maybe this is my heart on this pick, but I think it will happen.

 

North Carolina over Elon

Air Force over Idaho State

 

Maryland over William & Mary

This year Maryland will be the worst team in the ACC. They will supplant Duke. Do not be surprised if William & Mary pulls this out. I got Maryland in a close game.

 

Virginia over Richmond

The Cavs could be scary in the Atlantic this year.

 

Florida over Bowling Green

Miami over BC

 

FSU over Murray State

I am extremely excited about this Seminole team. Murray State is not the best team in the world, but FSU starts their possible title run against them this year. I really like our chances this year. Today won't be close though.

 

Wake Forest over Liberty

LSU over North Texas

Arkansas over Jacksonville State

 

Clemson over Auburn

Clemson will help bring respectability back to the ACC this year. I fully expect Clemson, Tech, and FSU to be very good this year. This is a huge game for the ACC and Clemson has to come through. However, Sammy Watkins is out, so it may be tough.

 

Ole Miss over Central Arkansas

Duke over FIU

Mississippi State over Jackson State

Rutgers over Tulane

 

And finally, the big game....

Michigan over Alabama

So since my original prediction, I have changed my mind. I just got a crazy feeling that Michigan will pull off this upset. They will do it, Robinson will become the Heisman favorite and the Wolverines will become the title favorite. Everyone expects Alabama to win, a week ago I thought they would too, but I am a big fan of Brady Hoke and think he has his team incredibly prepared. Big Blue makes a statement tonight. As the picture says if you expect to lose, don't play. Michigan absolutely does not expect to lose tonight.





The Guys @ Warchant Question Barron's Statement

I will not post the whole article here, because I encourage you to check out warchant. I will post some major ideas though. I will also say that Gene Williams picked Barron's statement apart. This conference expansion thing hasn't gone away after all.

Williams says that the information given by Barron on third tier rights is misleading. He argues that FSU not being rewarded by the ACC for their brand name is a major problem with the current deal. It is not really fair that Wake Forest gets the same cut as FSU for football. The argument about travel is misleading according to Williams. He says that the difference right now is 2.9 million as Barron said, but it will increase with FSU leaving for the Big 12. If FSU and Clemson, VT, or Miami leave for the Big 12 that difference grows. After the re-negotiated deal, there could be a 6 or 7 million gap. Imagine if all four leave like I had originally proposed. The Big 12 deal would be huge.

The final argument Williams makes against the statement is about academic perception. Williams says the academic perception of FSU leaving shouldn't matter. It is interesting the argument he gave as it is the same as booster president Andy Haggard. When a person gets a degree from FSU they don't think gee I am glad I got a degree from a school in the same conference as Duke and UVA. FSU students get a degree from FSU. Why do we care if Texas or Duke are in our conference? Does it really affect our academic perception if we are in Duke's conference?

My favorite point is the one about exit fees. It seems to be the most relevant to the discussion. This idea about exit fees is probably going to be the main issue for FSU leaving or staying. Williams points out that the Big 12 paid 1/2 of WVU's exit fee. Why wouldn't they do the same for FSU and say VT who would bring more of a brand name? This is a complicated issue and may take some more time to play out.

The Move to the Big 12 NEEDS to Happen

This move needs to happen. Take Clemson, VT and Miami with us, but it needs to happen. I know our school is worried about the perception of leaving the ACC academically, but that doesn't really matter. Our athletic department needs to cover their costs and the ACC negotiated a horrible deal. The projected revenue coming from the ESPN deal is expected to be backloaded a great deal. That won't help programs that are in current budget deficits very much. It will also make the gap between the haves (Big 12 and SEC) greater than the have nots (ACC and Big East). We cannot expect to continue to compete at a high level when those schools are raking in twice as much as us.

We sell more tickets in the Big 12. Sure, the schedule will be harder too, but does that hurt the SEC. If you lose a game in the SEC you still have a chance. We lose to VT in the ACC next year and we are done. If we move to the Big 12 and lose to VT, we can make up for it with games against Ok, Ok state, and Texas. It sets up a defacto national championship of Big 12 against SEC unless USC or Oh State go undefeated. It also brings in more money. We also don't have to worry about selling tickets from home games. Every single game against Big 12 opponents should sell out, except for maybe Iowa State.

Over the last two years FSU has finished in the top 10 of the Director's Cup twice, won the ACC in basketball, had a sweet 16 appearance, won two bowl games each time while having the best record in the state. We cannot expect that to continue if this move is not made. The budget deficit will likely increase due to a poor TV deal and lower ticket sales. People just aren't coming to see the Noles play Duke. Nobody cares. Let's make the bold move and see what happens. Let the ACC sink themselves, but don't let them take us with them. President Eric Barron said that FSU is not seeking alternatives, but that should change ASAP. We need to join WVU and make a good decision for ourselves.
