The Unfortunately Incomplete Legacy of Trent Forrest

Trent Forrest may have had the greatest career of anyone in the history of FSU Basketball. The team captain for FSU simply had an outstanding career. He's been FSU's most valuable player for three years and contributed to some of the school's best moments. That was capped off this year with the first ACC regular season championship in FSU history. This season also saw FSU set a record for wins before the tournament and ACC wins. The FSU basketball team got to cut down the nets and got trophies for this season. Forrest once again was the biggest reason why. So how is his legacy incomplete?

Quite simply, Forrest was robbed.

He was robbed of the chance to compete for an NCAA championship. The winningest player in program history didn't even get a chance to compete in March Madness for his senior season. Forrest got the team all the way to number 4, had them primed to receive a 1 seed and didn't have a chance to finish it off. It isn't right. It is something that he will remember for the rest of his life. Of all the things Covid-19 has robbed us of in sports, this 2020 FSU Basketball team season was the biggest of them all. We deserved the opportunity to see this thing through. As bad as it is for us, it's 10x worse for a guy like Forrest that has given everything for this program. My heart is still broken for this incredible basketball player. We will always wonder what could have been and what would have been. We will wonder how it would have happened and consider this incomplete season. I hate it for him, I hate Covid-19 and what it has taken from us, but there are some things that won't ever be taken.

You can't take away the game winning shots

You can't take away the dunk against Louisville

You can't take away cutting down the nets

You can't take away what Trent Forrest meant to this university

Thank you Trent Forrest!
