Once again, I was unable to watch the majority of the draft last night because for some reason Roger Goodell thought it would be a good idea to have the draft on Thursday and Friday Night. However, I was really intrigued by one day 2 storyline. This story actually comes from one of the worst day 1 storylines.
During the first round of the NFL Draft some punk kid managed to get Mohammed Sanu's phone number then called him pretending to be the Bengals. The kid informed Sanu that he would be the team's first round pick and Sanu celebrated because he thought he was a first round pick and going to a playoff team. Unfortunately for Sanu he had no idea that it was some punk and he had to watch in shock as the Bengals took somebody else. Can you imagine going through that? Realizing your dreams only to find out minutes later that it was a prank. How can somebody possibly do that to a kid?
After hearing about the prank call, Marvin Lewis showed tremendous class calling to lend his support to Sanu the next morning. Later that day Lewis and the Bengals took Sanu for real in the third round. Mohammed Sanu was relieved. A great end to a tough story. I hope Sanu has a long and successful career. He showed a lot of class through an incredibly difficult situation. Say what you want about Marvin Lewis, but he did a fantastic job here.
